This Week @ The Mint: Big Sam’s Funky Nation (Halloween) Federico Aubele, & Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band+ Ticket Giveaways.

We’ve got some FUNK for y’all this week. Two supreme funk bands, Big Sam’s Funky Nation and Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band will be joining us throughout the week for what will be just as much of a party as it is a concert. Big Sam will be here on Halloween which is just going to be a blast! Federico Aubele will also be serving up his delicious blend of electronic music, dub, classical guitar, and 20th orchestral music.  We’ve been hosting LA’s best live music for 70+ years and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Tuesday: Federico Aubele w/ Lisa Alma & Heavy Hitters of Comedy

We have two shows for you tonight, beginning with Federico Aubele  and  Lisa Alma. Aubele, who will headline the night, describes his latest music as a combination of electronic music, dub, classical guitar and the 20th century composers, Schoenberg and Stockhausen. Aubele has lived in both Buenos Aires and Berlin, and his latest music draws influences from his time spent living in Berlin. Lisa Alma’s music blends her soothing voice with tranquil piano chords and pulsating electronic beats to create an encapsulating dream-pop universe. It’s like a contemporary spin on 80’s pop music

 Our second show of the night is The Heavy hitters of Comedy featuring  Mike Casentini, Steve Young, Cathy Ladman, Al Del Bene, Cash Levy and headliner, Kira Soltanovich. The show will begin at 10 pm.

Wednesday: Two Cow Garage w/ The Cliks, & Hot Peach

Two Cow Garage are a Rock n’ Roll band with a wild touring schedule. They have been together since 2001 and their moto is: “have toured everywhere, will tour everywhere again.” The Cliks blend soul and blues music together and mix their love for the old Motown greats with dashes of current artists like the late Amy Winehouse, and the Black Keys. The Cliks have toured with Cyndi Lauper, The Cult, The New York Dolls and have appeared on national television on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.Hot Peach will open the night at 8 0’ clock. Hot Peach are a new Electro/ Power Pop project derived from Toronto based veteran folk singer/songwrtier Sarah Burton along with drummer/songwriter Jeremy Knowles and bassist Luke Stackhouse.

 Thursday : Big Sam’s Funky Nation with Unpoppable and BAMF

 Tonight is our Halloween bash featuring Big Sam’s Funky Nation. We are real excited about this one. A Big Sam show is the perfect way to throw down and party! Big Sam is from New Orleans and is the former trombone player of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. His live shows are an above and beyond experience featuring a blend of high voltage-funk, rock, jazz, and hip-hop termed “Noladelic Powerfunk.” BAMF describe themselves as Crazy Psychofunk from the plant PARTY! I think that says it all. They will open the night and will be followed by UnPoppable, a one man show lead by a man named Addie, who makes and plays a bass made entirely out of balloons.

Friday: Jay Brannan (solo) & The Soul of John Black w/ Tina Vonn

 Again, we have two shows for y’all tonight, beginning with a solo show featuring NYC-based singer/songwriter Jay Brannan. Brannan performs sweet and sad folk songs with a healthy dose of cynical humor thrown in for good measure. Brannan has released a string of albums, all of which have topped the iTunes singer/songwriter & Billboard Heatseekers charts. Brannan’s touring has taken him multiple times around the world, through the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Greece, Brazil, South Africa, Israel, and Australia…..and of all those place he could be, he is joining us on Friday at The Mint! It’s bound to be a breathtaking show.

Our second show of the night features The Soul of John Black, a band who smartly blends rock, funk, hip-hop, and R&B. Band leader, John Bigham, is a true twenty-first century soul man. His musical foundation is embraced by his love of classic and modern blues, which had a huge impact on him growing up in Chicago. Bigham has worked with Miles Davis, Dr. Dre, Nikka Costa, and Eminem. Opening the late show, is Tina Vonn, a local singer/songwriter who has delved into music at the tender age of 7 and has been winning national singing competitions ever since

 Saturday: Ali Spagnola’s Power Hour Drinking Game Concert & Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band w/ Dance Hall Pimps & The Gumbo Brothers  

 At 8 o’ clock, preceding Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, will be Ali Spagnola’s Power Hour Drinking Game Concert, which features 60 one-minute, pop/rock songs that take the audience on a wild ride through a Power Hour Drinking Game.

 The Big Booty Band will take the stage at 11 pm. Known for their raucous live shows and outrageous stage wear, The Big Booty Band’s sound is a mix of deep funk and high-energy rock with a dash of old school rap and soul thrown in. They have rubbed elbows on stage with classic purveyors of the funk like Parliament Funkadelic, Galactic, Karl Denson, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Dumpstaphunk, Maceo Parker, and Bootsy Collins…. Not to mention modern funksters such as The New Mastersounds and Orgone.  They have proven themselves to be a staple in the live music festival circuit by whipping fans into dancing frenzies at Wakarusa, Bear Creek, Jam Cruise, Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, Aura Fest, Jazz Aspen and many more! Opening the night are The Gumbo Brothers who will be followed by The Dance Hall Pimps. The Gumbo Brothers are firmly rooted in the eclectic artistic tradition of Venice Beach, with weekly wild performances at local venues and parties. They hit their fans hard with “ass-shakin’ funk.” The Dance Hall Pimps are a 7-piece blues rock band featuring horns, keyboard, powerful vocal, harp, and banjo.

Sunday: Rookie of the Year, The Material, Stereophire, &  Anson Li

Rookie of the Year is a rock band featuring Ryan Dunson. The 5-member, southern California bands compelling makes compelling music that mirrors their individual life experiences and the real world around them. Soulful and raspy, a female lead, Colleen D’Agostino, delivers powerhouse vocals over precision drumming, melodic guitar riffs and driving bass lines. Stereophire are throwing their CD release party , & Anson Li will open the night.
